Q. How long will a reporting process take?

This is a difficult question to answer because it depends on the complexity and specifics of the case. For the Informal Complaint Procedure on Student Misconduct, cases usually take between one and two months. For the Student Disciplinary Procedure, depending on the outcome a typical case can take between three and six months, though very complex cases can take longer.

Q. If I report will I be prevented from speaking about what happened to me?

The short answer is 'no', OSCCA does not use 'Non-disclosure agreements' for any cases relating to students.

However, while an investigation is ongoing, we ask everyone involved to not discuss the matter with others, except from those who are providing you with support. This requirement enables the Investigator to gather accounts from individuals about what they remember about an event, rather than what they've told others or what others have told them.

Before and after the reporting procedure the general University Rules of Behaviour apply - students cannot engage or attempt to engage in abusive behaviour, behaviour which is reasonably likely to cause harm; or have the effect of violating another’s dignity; or create an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for that other (including threats or abusive comments).

Within the Informal Student Complaint Procedure on student misconduct, reporting students can request as part of an agreement, that the respondent student does not discuss the reporting student with their peers, it would then be for the respondent student to agree or not agree to that request.

The Student Disciplinary Procedure can have outcomes that prohibit any form of contact with the reporting person.

Q. How can I give feedback on the reporting misconduct process?

If you have any feedback or questions regarding this webpage or any of the University's reporting procedures please contact OSCCA@admin.cam.ac.uk.
